What to do about baby diarrhea?
2010 January 1
My baby is 5 months old and my mother says her diarrhea is because she’s teething. But it seems to be getting worse and she does it about every 2 hours or so. Should I take her to a doctor or are there any home remedies to help aid her bowel issues?

my son had bad diarrhea when he was teething. you can give her a little bit of applesause and make sure she stays hydrated. She should be fine soon. But if it gets really bad you can call your dr. But it sounds normal to me.
I don’t think diarrhea is due to teething, although she may be teething.
Clear liquids only, no dairy. Try Pedialyte, Gatorade, diluted apple or pear juice, and of course water. It won’t hurt her to give up formula or even breastmilk for a day or two until things settle down (but you’d need to do some major pumping if she’s nursing. Think of it as a chance to stockpile.).
Usually the next step is the BRAT diet–Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast. If she hasn’t started food yet, check with her doctor. Definitely call the doctor if she gets a fever.
Good luck!
babies with severe diarrhea need to be checked out. babies get dehydrated easily. ur doc might prescribe a lactose free formula (if formula fed).
my son had diarrhea for a couple of days and was hospitalized cos it was gastric flu. its highly contagious n needs to be checked
