Should I Be Concern For My Baby’s Health?

For the past few days I took a Chinese herbal supplement (Gusao Pill) for cramp prevention and took 4 doses of a different herb medicine for diarrhea. I just found out today that I am pregnant. It’s my first pregnancy. Should I be concern about my baby’s potential health risk? I am going to see my doctor next week, but I am eager to hear your opinions.

First of all, I just want to say Congratulations on your pregnancy! It is natural for a ‘mother’ to constantly obscess over every little thing that they did before they found out that they were pregnant. If you think about it, many women do not find out that they are pregnant until they are nearly two months pregnant and many others don’t know for sure until they are 12-14 weeks (3 or 4 months) pregnant! So, sometimes we take medication for colds or other prescription medication (many women are actually still taking birth control pills and suddenly discover that they are pregnant unexpectantly!) and/or many women have worried their entire pregnancy because of a few alcoholic drinks that they remember consuming at or around the time of conception (before they realized that they were pregnant). What I am trying to say is— Relax…we all worry about “what if’s” during our pregnancy. It is normal to feel this way. Many women have worried over this, only to have very healthy pregnancies and very healthy babies. Make sure you take the bottles of the medication/herbs to your doctor’s appointment with you so that you can share the information with your doctor. He/she will look over it and will be able to help reassure you that many pregnant patients have had the same concern. You are taking a wonderful first step in making sure you receive prenatal care early on in the pregnancy, that certainly is a wonderful way to prepare for the arrival of your little one. Take care! :)

I am not sure but I wouldn’t think so. ask your doctor to be sure but in most cases unless it is an herb that causes an effect such as ephedra then I would think it would be okay. your doctor will know for sure though.

obviously doctors would know best, but i would think that your baby should be fine. for example, everyone knows alcohol is very bad for unborn babies, but many women get pregnant while drunk, or get drunk on 1 or more occasions before they know they are pregnant. their babies usually turn out fine. obviously it’s important to care for the baby from start to finish, but it is more important to take care of it later in the pregnancy.

If you didnt know you were pregnant at the time, dont stress about it! Stress can be one of the most harmful things for your unborn child! I would just make sure you watch what you take from now on, so that you wont harm the baby.

You need to go to the doctor right away. If you can’t get in call your ob/gyn and ask the nurse or doctor on call. Some herbal supplements mess with the hcg hormones. Without the hcg there is no baby. It is perfectly natural to be concerned for your babies health. so don’t feel stupid asking your ob/gyn alot of question when you do go to your appointment. Depending on how far along you are and where your baby is in the risk zone should determine how worried you should be. risk zone is a point where you can have a miscarriage and lose the baby. This ends at 20 weeks then it’s easy sailing from there cause you can’t have a miscarriage.

Read the label, and take the bottles in to your first appointment.

I think that since it is natural (assmption because of the herbs) it should be all right. There have been many women who do much worse things to themselves during their pregnancy and their babys have turned out just fine!I promise
    Life is short. Pray; HARD!
