First of all, I want to say that I think mother’s should follow their intuition and not feel stupid for taking their children to the doctor if they feel like they need to. Second, I do think antibiotics are prescribed way too often and the pp are right, they don’t do anything for viruses just bacterial infections. I have 2 kids that are under 3 and I am now on my 3rd pediatrician because I wasn’t satisfied with the first 2 for either not taking my concerns seriously or using prescriptions as an answer for everything. I would check into finding a new doctor and maybe check with your local pharmacy about giving your son probiotics.

infants are not suppose to take antibotics all the time it is dangerous you need to swtich doctors or get a secound opion from another doctor before its to late just cause it a doctor doesnt mean he knows what hes doing alot of doctors are just out to get your money also so please check with another doctor

too many anibiotics is bad for anyone. get another doctor. If your doctor is prescribing antibiotics for a virus, it won’t work. Antibiotics or only good for bateria.

How about you stop taking your kid to the doctor for every tiny ailment? The continued use of antibiotics, or ANY medicine for that matter, will result in a weakened immune system later in life. Babies and small children get sick a lot for a reason. Every time they encounter a new virus or bacteria, their bodies build up antibodies so they can protect themselves next time they encounter that virus/bacteria. If you don’t allow their bodies to do this in childhood, it will affect them for the rest of their lives.

If you are not comfortable with this doctor, switch. Ask this doctor why she prescribes so many antibiotics. Many people don’t ask questions. You have a right to ask as many questions as you want as you are looking out for son’s health.

Your Dr. knows best. The side effecs from the anitibiotics are less severe then the risks of the infection.

You’re right. Some doctors do overprescribe antibiotics. Not only can they have side-effects but if they are over prescribed then the child can build up a resistance to them which makes them less effective.
I’d change doctors and tell the new one about your concerns. I wouldn’t presume to tell you whether your child requires antibiotics or not, but most infantile complaints will disappear quickly enough with a lot of TLC and some common sense.

TOO MUCH SEX
My kids seldom got antibiotics unless the fever persisted over a few days.
HOWEVER… I didn’t see your child. I didn’t make the Rx… therefore… I’m not in a position to say.
Could be he tested positive for “fast streptococcus” in which case… it’s completely appropriate.
