My 5 Month Old Has Diarrhea For Last 3 Days?
2009 August 14
My 5 month old baby has had diarrhea for the last three days – his poos are really runny and acidic – took him to Dr on the first day and said to give Pedialyte every 10 mins except for when sleeping to keep him hydrated. He is hydrated but won’t stop pooing – any suggestions on how I can “glue” him up. Also any good suggestions on how to soothe his bum. Tried all nappy creams and am onto Vasaline. Not game to give him nappy free time with his explosive diarrhea. Baby is Lactose Intolerant and has bad reflux too – but this is already being treated.

Try bananas and rice cereal. These two together should help firm up his stools, but if he has a virus, it will just have to run it’s course. It could be gastroenteritis. That’s most common. Hopefully your child is up to date on all of his vaccines. I’m guessing so since you took him to the doctor. It will possibly just have to run it’s course. Do try the bananas and cereal though. This may help a little, but only do it if he’s able to keep food down and isn’t vomiting.
You must take your baby to the doctors, this is very serious for an infant, dehydration will make your baby very ill. Do not wait.
My son had diarrhea for 2weeks when he was 10months. I was told from his doctor that it may have come from germs or even a virus in the air. So you have to keep him hydrated and It will clear up on it’s on time. Also make sure you use hand sanitizer every time you change poopy diapers. Oh yeah !( the rash) some creams make It worst, so I just kept him dry at all times with a little J & J cornstarch powder here & there.
Good Luck
ah mrs feel sorry for ya and little one.
did ya try sudocream or talc i swear by talc really helps keep the skin dry.
as for the diarrhea watch he doesnt dehydrate, we would take doralate (cant spell) to stop dehydration. normally your told not to eat anyting and let it take it course but your baby so small you cant do this.
good luck.
This is potentially serious to a baby that age. I’m a staunch “do-it-yourselfer” but in this case I’d take the baby to the doctor’s office and let him stink up the waiting room until the doctor cured him. The best thing we ever found for rash was Desitin… anything stronger than that should be industrial rated.
