My 1 Month Old Baby Has Diarrhea And I Dont Know What From? Is This Normal?

my daughter started on enfamil lipil with iron and it seemed to make her gassy and she couldnt pass it and she had difficulties pooping, so i switched her to enfamily prosobee(soy) and the gassiness has gone away now she has diarrhea but i dont think it’s from the formula since she started with it the day before i switched her. she was getting 2 ounces of juice a day per the doctor because she gets 2 ounces of rice cereal in the morning and at night since she’s such a large child. she’s only a month old and weighs 13 pounds, she was almost 10 at birth so she needs a bit more to eat than most. she’s still urinating normally so she’s not dehydrated, i was just wondering if it can just show up at any random time or what?!

Please take her to the dr. as soon as u can. You may need to try low iron, or prosoyb. I think she is too too young for juice! At that age the sugar is too strong for her tummy and or the acid they contain! I had a 9lb, daughter so I understand the formula isnt enough.. but I started on the cereal until she was 4-5 mts. old there stomach cannot take so much. I would try to stick to enfamil low iron, and try some camomile tea. You purchase the leaves in a bag, usually in the mex. products at like walmart.. you bowl them in water, make it light , maybe 4-6 stems. W/ flowers.. bowl until you smell the tea then remove from fire so wont become too strong. Then poor into a mug using a coffee filter to clean the tea. Then let cool to room temp. and serve in a bottle. So.. rotate servings. Maybe 1 bottle of formula, then between feedings give her some tea. It will soothe her tummy. Please lay off the juice and cereal. Be cautious of the temp. of the tea. And dont substitute it for a feeding, give her like 2 or 3 oz. not too much! Make a new pot everyday and throw out what is left. Also dont give her cold drinks, make sure everything is warm. I know she seems tough on the outside cuz she is so big, still her inside are still so new… be gentle in what u feed her! good luck!

WOW. Get a new doctor. A one month old baby SHOULD NOT be on juice or cereal. I dont konw one single person/specialist/doctor that woudl reccomend that– except yours, apparently.
My daughter was born at 9 1/2 lbs and is 13 lbs at 2 months. She’s healthy and gaining steadily. My doc specificall told me NOT to give her anything but milk (including adding cereal) utnil she’s 6 months, unless we decide otherwise at her 4 month appt.
4oz of rice creal and 2 oz of juice is not good for her– THAT’s why she’s getting diarrhea.

All babies are different. My daughter gave me the big worry. She was born normal, but as soon as we went home from the hospital, a few days later she got diahrrea. It was watery. The pediatric prescribed her Pedilyte in the transparent form. She was good on it until 2 days later she had diahrrea again. It was the formula and she did have a problem with her stomach. So, I began mixing Pet milk with a little more than a can of water. But later bought the prepared type. But you may have to do test on your baby to be sure what she realy has and can give the correct treatment. Best of health to your baby.

HUN, 1st of all she is WAY to young for juice and WAY to young for rice cereal. I started giving my son rice ceral when he turned 3 month.
STOP giving her juice and ceral in the morning and you will see she will get much better JUST STICK to the milk i don’t think it was the milk giving her diarrhea. You can give her a little bit of water to help her tummy out.

I understand your time situation but honestly I have never heard of a pediatrician recommending all of that for a new baby. I would say that is why she had diarrhea. a baby at that age shouldnt be getting all of that because of their digestive systems. Also, it could give her food allergies, and this is how she might be reacting. I would change the doctor. I know you said you are busy all of the time being that your husband is gone, and I am sorry that that is your situation. However, I think it would be best for your baby to get a second opinion about that.

Well ya if she has a bug, but I don’t think that she needs to be drinking juice???? at that age, it might be just a little too much for her little system. My son was 10lbs. 8 oz at birth and he was never recommended to drink juice or cereal at that age. In my opinion I would stop feeding her cereal and juice and just feed her one kind of formula so her body has a chance to get used to it, her digestive system is very young and can’t handle much. She will probably eat a lot of formula but that’s all my son needed until he was about 4 months. Doctors aren’t always right, mother knows best.

Juice can cause diarrhea in a baby that small. Wonder why your doc advised that? Cereal is extremely hard on a 4 wk old stomach and babies that age are really prone to food allergies which often presents itself in the form of gas, vomiting or diarrhea. Does she have fever? Is she teething?

My sons were all 9 pounders at birth. And as a Doula and a mother I would not give juice to a newborn, Allergies………. Please stop now. Or your child will have them severe later on.
And that is a cause of the diarrhea.
prosoybee and most are great and do not normally cause it. I would say it is the juice. And no need for cereal either till much later on and the bowels will get better. They have no digestive track for cereal or juice right now. No nutrients are getting to the baby from it. The juice is used as a laxtive by most docs and the cereal is just a filler causing the babies brain to think it is full.

What!!!??? Get your baby to a doctor asap! Babies can dehydrate very fast. Besides, your baby should not be on juice or even cereal at so young an age. It messes with their digestive systems. Just put her on just formula for now and take her to the hospital ASAP!
