My cat was given antibiotics after a dental cleaning and I switched her food because of food allergies. Too much for her system at once I know! Well now she has horrible diarrhea. The vet put her on metronidazole and it hasnt been working. I also researched that that medicine can cause more harm than good. He also gave her probiotics to give her after 7 days of the metronidazole. Her poop is literally like chocolate pudding without blood or mucus. I have tried giving her her old food that didnt cause diaherra before and giving her baby food. Nothing has worked. I have never given my kitty dry food. I tried once and it gave her diarrhea too. I dont know what other food to give her! Help!

Try your cat on a Natural Balance limited ingredient canned food. One of these:http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/catform…
Many probiotic supplements from vets and human doctors are nearly useless because the microorganisms are dead from incorrect storage, or because they have eaten each other.
I learned a great deal about probiotic supplements through years of working in the dietary supplements field. There a a few really good brands and many lousy ones. One good one is Jarrow brand’s EPS formula.
There is an herb that may help firm her stool and lessen her intestinal irritation. This herb, a tree bark product has no drug-like action unlike many others. Its action is purely “mechanical”.
It is safe for use in cats ( readers – many herbs used for humans are injurious or even lethal to cats !). Try getting her some slippery elm bark. Google cat diarrhea slippery elm bark and you’ll get all the instructions for use.
Good luck.

Just discovered Jarrow makes a probiotic especialy for cats and dogs:http://www.myhealthmyworld.com/Jarrow-Pe…
Uh yeah take her in if it’s that bad and lasting..if she can’t eat certain foods without the upset tummy then it sounds like she may have food allergies. I’m only guessing: When our first dog had food allergies he became incredibly itchy to the point where all we did was stroke his back and he would tense and itch like he had flees. Take her in and tell the vet what’s going, and ask if there is a special cat allergy food and ask if it’s a possible food allergy. There is hypo-allergenic dog food for dogs with food allergies.
Call the vet for advice and to see if he has another food. Also for the night pick up her food and just leave water. No milk(well ever in most cats) antibiotics can cause this if shes still on find out if she can come off-my vet let my cat come off 2 doses into the meds. he had no issues from that.
Ewwww. Take her in
Aww, bless her heart!
*Important: Felines are very easily dehydrated which can be fatel within only a few hours, 24-36 hours possibly.
Because of this you must not delay in calling your vet back for FREE consultation over the phone.
Your vet will more then likely order an IV immediately!
Changing a felines food will usually always cause a case of diarrhea.
Some medications as well have this side effect.
Often the bacteria that is exiting the body will cause diarrhea.
PLEASE do not experiment any longer with her food… TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!!!
Thank you for being such a wonderful, responsable and loving pet owner.
We too love our felines as if they, well they are, our family.
Good Luck to you and your kitty.
Please call the vet back right away even if you have to call his Dr. on night duty.
Respectfully Submitted, Shadow
