Have A Stray Cat That Had Severe Diarrhea About 9-10 Days Ago, So Sick Lives Outside, We Tried Everything To?
catch him to take to vet, cannot do it! He sits on my porch now after he finally came to eat and eats very well now, after he started eating I got him some amoxil and giving pedialyte,1 tsp daily, he still has diarrhea but not as watery, His only problem as far as I can tell now is he has a stiffness to his walk, i suppose this is why he wont leave porch, during his sickness he only ate a few times but drank some, he hid and slept alot, I talk to vet , he cant give me answers without seeing him but has helped some, does anyone know now that he is improving (It seems) why he would have stiff walking problem? It looks like he is limping sometimes, walks very slowly, goes up and down steps very slowly,He has been chasing baby rabbits all spring, but he got so sick and I have no idea what happened, he seems better except for the stiff walking problem?? Thanks
My previous question was this one but I didnt state it is a cat, I am sorry, I am brand new on here!
Muscle soreness can be an effect of dehydration. If your kitty is going to get better outside, make sure he has enough food if he appears to be too stiff to move. The Pedialyte is a must to continue to help replace some of the electrolytes he’s surely lost, but don’t underestimate the power of fresh water. Water that sits for too long (especially outside) can grow bacteria that can make diarrhea worse, so please be mindful to change the water in his bowl 2-3 times a day. In addition, make sure wherever he was sleeping while recovering is still accessible and fit for him to stay in. Cats like familiar things, so this may be preferable to making him some kind of new sleeping spot. Of course, don’t hesitate to leave the garage door open or something similar if rain is a problem.
There’s always the possibility he has a disease or something you can’t help him with without veterinary care. Give some more thought to catching him, or at least call your vet up if he gets worse.
Borrow a live trap from a feline rescue or the animal shelter to catch him, it sounds like he REALLY needs to see a vet. Any stiffness like that usually means severe pain in the body somewhere.
Animals will walk stiffly when they are weak and in pain.Try to get a Hav -A- Hart Trap and catch him so you can get him to the vet. Also,go to Walmart and get some Hartz Ridworm for DOGS,not cats. It contains pyrantel, which is very safe.Try to guess the cat’s weight and put the dose ( same dose as a dog) in some tuna or milk ( just a small amount of food so he will eat it all ).Also feed the cat boiled chicken and rice, and plain yogurt to help firm up his stool. But really, try to get a trap! The cat may have parasites from eating rabbits,or giardia or coccidia from drinking dirty water. It needs a vet asap.
Contact the Humane Society and other shelters in your area and see if you can borrow or rent a trap.
If you can trap him, you can take him to the vet for an examination and blood work to try and figure out what is wrong with him.
Do a Google search:
cats trap stray OR feral city state
Put the OR in upper case as I show it and replace city and state with your city and state.
You should find an organization which can lend you a trap or come out and help you trap the cat. They may also be able to help with the vet costs – they may have arrangements with vets to provide low cost services for strays and ferals.
Good luck
