Could My 14 Weeks Old Baby Be Teething?

My son have been showing signs of teething recently, well this is what I think anyways. He constantly put his fingers in his mouth, or anything that he can grabs (blanket, his own PJ’s, my fingers when he holds them…). He is drooling quite a bit, but not excessively. Last night (and a few other nights now), he had a really hard time to fall asleep, he was crying so loud. His diapers are a little runny (not to say diarrhea…) but no fever. He also broke out in a rash a few days ago, although it seems to be getting a little better now.
Do you think he is beginning the process of teething? He is a very easy baby, and never used to cry so much. Since he is only 14 weeks, can I give him Orajel for babies? It says on the package not to give to a baby less than 4 months old, unless under the order of a physician. Also, would tylenol for babies be better ? It looks very painful the way he cries. Thanks, Manal.

Absolutely. My eldest daughter had her first tooth at 3 monthes. Use caution in using Orajel since it aactually creates problems for the theeth to come in since it toughens up the gums.

Yes it is possible. My sis’s baby is about the same age as yours and she is already showing signs. A few other family members of mine have babies who also are showing signs.

It is rare, but very possible. As far as orajel, definetly consult ur doctor 1st, he’s still pretty young.

Absolutely. My daughter’s first two (bottom front) teeth were fully through the gum before she was 4 months old.

He could be teething, I am not completely sure about the rash, but my daughter 12 weeks old is teething and my doctor told me no baby orajel and ONLY tylenol when it seems to be really bothering him! My daughter only chews on her hand, so I wash my hands up, and let her chew on my finger, and I try to massage her gums. Also, you can get a washed cold carrot and let him chew on that. Because he is young you cant do much for them, and you might just have to be there for them, let them know you love them even know they are crying in pain. Its hard, my heart goes out to my daughter, but you have to do whats best, and sometimes whats best is not doing anything.
I hate not being able to give her tylenol when it hurts and baby oragel but doctors orders. I hope I helped and good luck to you and your son!

Hi… yes, it is possible. My brother-in-law was born with two teeth! (I kid you not… I know, it’s weird.) :) I can’t imagine orajel isn’t ok (he’s only two weeks short of 4 months), but you might want to double check with your pediatrician. And yes, infant tylenol works like a charm if they are indeed teething. Are his gums red and / or swollen? Unfortunately, they can sometimes show symptoms LONG before any teeth actually cut. Good luck! It’s a long and painful process…
