Am I Wrong For Giving My Son Cereal And Baby Bananas At 4 Months?

I’m re posting this because I put constipated instead of diarrhea.. it changes a lot lol.
My son is 4 months tomorrow and I have started giving him a little bit of cereal once a day mixed with about a teaspoon of banana baby food after one of his formula feedings. He loves it so much. He has diarrhea on the nutramigen formula he is on but he has to be on it due to a milk protein allergy to other formulas. I know they recommend that babies aren’t fed cereal and other foods until 6 months of age but he seems to be really happy. I am only doing bananas for now and only one teaspoon in some rice cereal once a day. Did you do something similar to this with yor baby? He can hold his head upright and is over 15 pounds.

Most babies should wait until 6 months, but we don’t all have cookie-cutter babies. I have friends whose doctors have started their babies on cereal around 4 months because the babies were ready for it.
You’ll find a lot of sources online that will guide you, and your pediatrician is really the best place for info, but here is just one comment from my source page:
    It states that :
“Somewhere between four and six months, but probably closer to six months, your baby will be ready for solid foods. ”
Notice that it says 4-6, and that includes your little guy. He looks beautiful and healthy, and you should always follow your instincts. If he’s hungry, and you are keeping a good eye on him while he’s starting solids, then you are a GOOD mother and a GOOD person!!!
    Best of luck!! :)

I did the rice cereal at 4 months old, and waited for to do veggies at 6 months old, and fruits at 6/1/2 months old. But i don’t think that giving him some rice cereal and baby bananas will hurt, if he’s willingly to eat them and loves them, and u think he’s ready for it, then i say continue with it. Ur his mommy and u know him best, so do what u feel is right, :D .

Your baby is fine to be eating the bananas and cereal now. I began all three of my children on baby food before this age and they are all fine. If the Nutramigen gives them diarrhea and he is allergic to the milk protein it sounds like he would be a good candidate for soy based formula… have you considered that?

I have 3 kids, and they all turned out fine. I started giving them Gerber Rice cereal when they were 3 mths old. My children were 8lbs. 9 oz. , 9lbs. 10oz., and 7lbs. 6oz. milk alone wasn’t cutting it. If he’s happy and its not making him constipated, then do it. Just make sure you go in order with the cereals. Rice, Oatmeal, Mixed, and then Grain he should be ok. Wait a month or so before you change to different cereals.

OH some people are so dramatic. it’s fine! I started my munchin on cereal mixed with fruit at 4 months. It added to the flavor, that rice cereal stuff is just so bland. his doc said it was fiiiine. No big deal people.

It’s okay if he’s acting well with it. Just don’t introduce other foods right away of course.
*With that diarreah keep diaper rash cream on him every diaper change.

Ah, that does change a lot! Ignore my answer to not give him bananas. Go for it. If he is tolerating it… do it.

You are recommended to start introducing your baby to solid foods between 4-6 months of age. If your son is keeping everything down and showing no negative effects, there’s no reason not to continue or explore other foods. Most of our parents fed us small bites of soft food when we were little more than a month or two. My son was eating small smounts of barley cereal mixed with fruit and breastmilk at 3 months old. Also, a friend of mine had her pediatrician tell her to put small amounts of rice cereal in her son’s bottle because he spit up alot, and he was only 3 months old at the time as well.

Not being rude but you should have asked your doctor about giving it to him, there is a reason why they recommend it at 6months and not 4. Your not a bad person for giving your son cereal it would have waited a bit longer or asked my doctor
I NEVER CALLED HER A BAD PERSON!! GET SOME GLASSES AND LEARN TO READ! I JUST SAID I WOULD HAVE JUST ASKED THE DOCTOR!!

If you knew he shouldn’t have it till 6mo, why did you give it to him?
Anyway, if he seems fine he probably is. Ask you pediatrician.
