Question 1: My son just turned one today and last night he had a very bad smelling burp almost like a sulfur fart. Then not too much longer he projected all the contents of his stomach out onto my bed and husband. The Clinic I go to is very dumb and says that there is nothing they can do for his diarrhea and symptoms. It is not normal to me for what he is going through. He seems to have a bad tummy ache and is not comfortable. He is not acting sick cuz just before he puked there was no warning and was just as happy go lucky as always. Can anyone tell me why his burps smell so badly? I am at lost what to do. I hate seeing my baby like this. He is my second and I have never had this problem before.

Best Answer: Your son could be lactose intolerant. My son only drinks goat milk because regular upsets him so much. Another of friends has just found out the 18 mth old is a siliac(?) and they have had to change his diet straight away. They had the same complaint you said. So please get the checks done before giving a child over the counter medicine not intended for children.

Question 2: My 7 Month Old Baby Has Diarrhea, Should I Give Him His Milk.? There is a bug going round which my two boys had to catch. My 2 year old is just getting over it but now the baby has it. Im worried as each time i give him his bottle he squirms with discomfort then passes really liquid stools (sorry for the detail). Should i continue with the bottles or should i just give him water or juice. He has been given dioralyte to replace his lost fluids, but hasnt really had any milk / food and i dont want to starve him. Really worried……What should i do??

Best Answers:
Try the BRAT Diet: B-bananas, R-rice, A-apple sauce, T-toast. Absolutely no dairy. To maintain electrolytes levels, give Pedialyte, comes in a few different flavors. The stage 1 jars of food should be suitable. Your son at this age probably can’t eat the toast, too hard and dry and remember, no butter.
As long as he is getting fluids though, he will be o.k although it is heartbreaking when they don’t eat. Good luck.

Question 3: (for Breast Feeding Moms): My 3 month old baby’s stools have changed to a slimy, runny like stool, darker in color and no longer seedy like before. She does not have a fever. Her diapers leak constantly; it’s really disgusting. I’ve contacted our pediatricians several times and they say it’s fine as long as she’s peeing. They are going to see her again on Monday since it’s been over 2 weeks. She is taking .6mL of Zantac twice a day for reflux. Could this be causing the diarrhea or is it just a virus? I’ve eliminated dairy from my diet; I’ve not eaten dairy for a week now. She’s seems happy otherwise. I’m just so sick of these disgusting diapers that leak diarrhea all over the place and of course I feel for her. She normally has 3-4 big explosions a day now.

Best Answer: You should eliminate some other common foods that cause allergies. Try avoiding Soy. Then wheat. It’s hard to do but you’ll be able to figure out what foods are causing the reflux. Zantac may help stop the reflux but isn’t fixing the reason the baby gets reflux.

Question 4: I Have an 8 Month Old Baby Is Vomiting And Has Diarrhea, But He Wont Drink The Pedialite!! What Do I Do?”

Best Answer: First you need to Call your pediatrician no matter what the time is: they all always on call or have someone who is. Dehydration can happen with extreme quickness in babies and children. He may also have gastroenteritis and may need antibiotics and a restricted diet. If you want to keep trying this all I can suggest is that when you give the pedialyte it to him you hold his mouth closed until he swallows it and have his bottle handy to refresh his mouth and calm him. This sound a bit cruel, I know, but its what doctors and nurses do in the hospitals.

Question 5: I think my baby’s got diarrhea but I’m not so sure cause her poop is not watery. Since 10 days she poops6 to 7 times a day when she used to poop 3 to 4 times before and her poop is kind of green instead of yellow like before. I called the nurse she said that since the baby is not dehydrated and looks fine(still playing and eating) no fever, not crying too much, she thinks the baby will be ok but it’s been 10 days now and I’m scared.

Best Answer: The definition of diarrhea is frequent and watery stools, so if the consistency is good then it is not diarrhea. Green stooling that is very frequent — occurring between 12 and 16 times a day — and that may be watery and foul smelling, are common with diarrhea. If she is drinking and eating well and has no other symptoms, then I wouldn’t worry. The digestive track just may be working something out. My sister’s 3 month old is doing the same thing with the green stools. If your baby is breast fed it may be that she is getting more fore milk than hind milk. According to WebMD: Don’t be frightened by the color changes of BMs. In normal infants, BMs change color as the baby’s diet changes, as the digestive tract matures, and as it is populated by new, normal bacteria. It’s rare that color changes signal a digestive problem. Usually color changes just mean that there is more or less of the yellow/green/brown/orange pigments that are picked up along the way. You don’t need to worry about green, orange, and yellow stools. They are par for the course and are rarely a sign of a digestive problem.
